Feminism Unbound: Imagining a Feminist Future

Who: National Women’s Studies Association

What: Feminism Unbound: Imagining a Feminist Future

Where: Oakland Mariott City Center, Oakland, CA

When: November 8th-11th, 2012

Why:The only event in the US exclusively dedicated to showcasing the latest feminist scholarship. This event is the best way to reach a rising number of women’s and gender studies researchers, educators, students, and community/cultural activists. Attendees will be able to reach over 1,500 established and emerging feminist scholars.

Event at the CSPH! Sexuality later in life!

NOTE: This workshop is only for people who identify as women.

Taught by: Anita P. Hoffer, PhD, EdD

In this workshop, you will discover the secrets most women over 50 need to know to have a satisfying sex life; the surprising statistic about the number of older women who enjoy sex; unique and little- understood features of female anatomy and how this knowledge can enhance pleasure; and much more….

A common misconception in our youth-obsessed culture is that as women age, they lose interest in or cannot enjoy intimate physical relationships, and are more or less sexually “dead.” Women who have had little or no sex education may be inclined to believe this fiction. Cultural taboos on talking openly about sex, combined with lack of sex education, may have left them ignorant of the sexual behaviors of their peers as well as self-conscious and often even ashamed of their own sexual needs and concerns. Not only were they taught that “nice girls don’t,” they were also taught that “nice girls don’t even talk about it.”

This informal workshop will focus on learning for women who are approaching menopause or older, in a supportive and strictly confidential environment. We will explore the themes of sexuality and new opportunities for celebrating it as we age, as well as the many benefits of maintaining sexual health in mid- and later life.

For more details, check out the event post here!
