Word Of The Day: oculophilia

You walk into a room and glance around. A person catches your eye, just briefly, a quick moment of connection that is quickly lost as they turn away. But that moment of contact was already enough to draw you in: for the next hour or so you will be lost in the frenzy of trying to meet their eyes again without seeming like the creepy voyeur invading their personal space from across the room.

Oculophilia is an infatuation with someone’s eyes, or with the messages and signals that those eyes are transmitting to you. Who hasn’t enjoyed a casual eye fuck from across the room - a titillating, subtle signal that no one else in the room can read but the two of you?   If you’re lost in their eyes at first glance, and they seem to be reciprocating, enjoy the intoxication…at least until you can retreat somewhere more private to get to know each other.

(But remember not to be a creep…if they clearly don’t want to get to know you, stop following them with your eyes. That’s not cool.)
